thanks for taking the time to stop by and check out our work.
i am a georgia native; born and raised in woodstock. since i was a little kid i was always starting “businesses”. i have come a long way from selling rocks door-to-door (or attempting to), cutting grass, washing cars, and playing music. i graduated from uga with a biz degree, and went straight into sales. sales was a blast, but the desire to own my own business never would go away. i was constantly on the lookout for my great business idea. meanwhile, i was really getting into photography, but that was just for fun. i knew you couldn’t really make money as a photographer… i went on vacation where i could not take enough photos, and spent way too long editing them. it was then i realized that i wanted to do this every day; and jhp began. i started shooting as much as i could on nights and weekends, and working my 9-5 sales job mon-fri. before i knew it i was too busy to keep working my 9-5 and maintain the photography biz. the business has literally built itself. when i would make money taking photos for people I would invest it right back into JHP. july 2010 i took the plunge to make photography my full time gig, and have not looked back. i am extremely fortunate to have my passion turn into a full-time career and rapidly growing business. thanks to so many family, friends, and clients that have helped along the way.
throughout my life i have always had some creative outlet. Whether that was music, cars, furniture, home improvement, or photography; i like making things. now i get to collaborate with other people to create.
why photography? i get to work with so many unique people on a wide array of projects. i get to play with cool toys, photo gadgets, and there is always something new.
what is your favorite thing to take pictures of? That's an easy answer, people. Whether I am directing folks during a photoshoot or snapping candid photos; i love reactions. that may be the reaction of people(s) in the picture or the reaction of people(s) to the picture. that is why weddings have been a natural fit, and i am constantly surprised by the new opportunites reactions provide.
our goal is to have fun and make great photos.
we obviously want you to love your photos, but we also want you to enjoy your experience. i think that philosophy has been the key to our steady growth.
in 2011+2012 we grew primarily through wedding photography, and that is the plan for 2013. in 2011 jhp shot 24 weddings, we are planning for 20-25 in 2012+2013. we are also growing through commercial photography, editorial photography, art photography, and other creative projects.
